What the Mermaids of the Great Salt Lake Did in August

August began with a splash — literally! The first three days of the month had us double and even triple booked, and we loved every shimmering second of it.

August 1: Diving Into Family & Highland Fling

We started the month in Holladay at the Diving Into Family event, where Lady Aine and Princess Pearl spent the afternoon swimming with families and posing for photos beside our giant seashell throne. The laughter, the smiles, and the shared stories reminded us why we love what we do — bringing a little bit of mermaid magic to Utah’s families.

That same evening, we floated our way over to the Highland Fling, where we greeted guests before an outdoor screening of Disney’s The Little Mermaid. There’s something truly special about watching Ariel’s story unfold under the open sky, surrounded by people who still believe in the magic of the sea.

To finish the day, we dove into the Fringe Fest with Gonzo Rising, sharing a stage that celebrates creativity, expression, and a whole ocean of imagination.

August 2–3: Making Waves at AWU

Next up, we swam into AWU — the Utah Furry Convention — and what a weekend it was! This was our first appearance there, and we had an ocean of fun meeting everyone. Mermaids in attendance were Lady Aine, Princess Pearl, Shellsea, BB, Mermaid Moon, Skye (with wonder dog Jasper!), Galene, and Kade. We shared stories, photos, and plenty of laughter — and we truly hope to be invited back next year. You all made us feel so welcome!

August 3: Our Fifth Year at Ogden Pride

To cap off the weekend, we returned to Ogden Pride — one of our favorite annual traditions and a celebration close to our hearts. This was our fifth year attending, and every time we’re reminded of how much love, color, and community this event brings together. Thank you to everyone who came to say hello, share hugs, and take photos with us — you make every splash worthwhile.

Reflections from the Deep

August was busy, beautiful, and full of connection — from furry friends to families and festival-goers. We’re endlessly grateful to everyone who invited us, supported us, and stopped to share a smile.

As we swim into September, we’re excited to appear at the Mental Health Fair, where we’ll be sharing waves of hope, kindness, and self-care. We can’t wait to see familiar faces — and meet new ones — above and below the surface.
